What should I take with me to the Wadi Rum desert?

What should I take with me when I go to the Wadi Rum desert, whether by camel or by Jeep?

It's one of the most common questions and concerns: how should I prepare myself for a desert tour? One thing you can be certain of is that the sun will be shining in the Wadi Rum. Whether it's winter or summer, good sun protection is necessary. If you plan on spending hours under the sun, remember to bring clothes with long sleeves, a hat or cap to cover your head, sunglasses, and sun protection cream. When travelling with children, ensure their skin is fully protected as the sun in the Wadi Rum desert can be surprisingly intense.

Should my preparation vary depending on the time of year?

The answer is yes. Regardless of the season, always protect yourself from the sun. However, during the winter season, it's important to bring warm clothes, especially for the early mornings, evenings, and nights. Nights in the Wadi Rum desert can be cold, with temperatures decreasing close to zero degrees, so having suitable clothing is essential for comfort. During the daytime, it's generally mild weather in the desert, but it's still a good idea to have warm clothes with you, particularly for the jeep tours. In the summertime, lighter clothing is sufficient, and you don't need to worry as much about the cold.

What kind of clothing is required when riding a camel?

When riding a camel, there aren't many strict requirements, but it's good to keep some basics in mind. Opt for long trousers instead of shorts, and for women, it's better to avoid skirts when engaging in this activity. Comfort is key when choosing trousers for riding, so avoid those with hard seams and ensure that you can move and sit comfortably. If possible, choose something other than rigid jeans for a more pleasant experience.

How about footwear?

As we all know, the Wadi Rum desert is filled with sand, so it's important to wear shoes suitable for walking on sand. For camel tours, make sure you have shoes that won't slip off during your ride. Since rainfall is rare in the desert, rubber boots are not necessary here!

How can I get drinking water in the desert?

During our Wadi Rum tours, whether you're travelling by camel or jeep, bottled water is always available. Water is essential in the desert, so make sure you drink enough during the tour. When your water bottle is empty, simply ask for a refill!

Is there anything else I need?

Exploring the desert is an adventure. Once you have the essentials, bring along an adventurous mindset and have fun with us here in the Wadi Rum! If you happen to forget something or run out of camera battery, don't worry. Take it easy and enjoy your time; we're confident you'll leave the desert with beautiful memories :)

Sunglasses, of course, too. It's the easiest way to avoid squinting headaches.😎😎
